Local Artist captures the Characters of Tatnuck People of Tatnuck were featured in a one-woman art exhibit September 2005 at Framed in Tatnuck, 1099 Pleasant Street in Tatnuck Square. Elisabeth Donker, a Tatnuck artist, has undertaken to capture with painted portraits many of the people who help make this Worcester neighborhood so closely knit. Elisabeth’s artistic motivation is neither recognition nor profit, but rather to present a colorful record of the people and merchants that make the neighborhood such a pleasant place to live and shop. Elisabeth embarked on this ambitious project in March of 2007 and has since
then produced more than 30 paintings of people and places in Tatnuck.
This exhibit is meant as a contribution to the spirit that makes the neighborhood the place it is today, with its variety of shops, services and the personalities that own or operate them. Among the portrayed people are the hairdresser, the jeweler, the local UPS driver and the mailman. You’ll also see the man from the postal center, the meat market and the seafood shop. With the closing of the exhibit the artist joyfully donated the portraits to the subjects.
